The members of NMU student organizations sponsor almost 300 campus-wide programs and events every year in addition to the hundreds of group activities. These same students volunteer thousands of hours of service annually to local communities. In the process, the student organizations that register at Northern Michigan University every year provide thousands of students with fun, friendships, memories, and educational experiences that cannot be found in the classroom.
Efforts put forth by student organizations are recognized annually at the Leadership Recognition Banquet.

Student Organization: Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA)
|Description||Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is the most distinguished pre-professional organization for students interested in public relations, which encompasses over 11,000 members. Public relations, marketing, communications, journalism, and other majors are welcome to participate in the group. Each year, the Chapter sends members to the PRSSA National Conference, which is held in various cities throughout the U.S. The Chapter also puts on a campaign each year to give students working experience. In years past, this has included fashion shows, rail jams and the Annual Hometown Pizza Taste Off. Through these campaigns, members of PRSSA get valuable knowledge about event planning. PRSSA also centers itself on volunteerism. NMU PRSSA was named Teaching Family Homes Community Member of the Year in 2010, Volunteer Organization of the Month for February 2011 and won the 2010-2011 Student Organization Community Service Award. In addition, the PRSSA Chapter at NMU was recognized with the Star Chapter Award at national conference in 2014. The NMU chapter has also had a member elected to serve on the National Committee for the past four years. For more information, email email@example.com.|
