The members of NMU student organizations sponsor almost 300 campus-wide programs and events every year in addition to the hundreds of group activities. These same students volunteer thousands of hours of service annually to local communities. In the process, the student organizations that register at Northern Michigan University every year provide thousands of students with fun, friendships, memories, and educational experiences that cannot be found in the classroom.

Student Organization: Phi Sigma Sigma
|Description||Phi Sigma Sigma was founded by a group of ten women in 1913 from Hunter College in New York City; today, the sorority has chapters all over the U.S. and Canada. Phi Sigma Sigma is very active in community service, participating in Big Brothers Big Sisters, U.P. 200 Dog Sled Race, Make a Difference Day, and other local philanthropies. Our international philanthropy is the Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation with proceeds to school and college readiness, partnering with Kids in Need Foundation and Practice Makes Perfect. Phi Sigma Sigma is involved in many campus activities including Late Night at the PEIF, Homecoming, and Greek Week. Phi Sigma Sigma strives for excellence in scholarship and has an excellent program designed to help sisters with their studies. There is a minimum GPA requirement of 2.5 for membership.
