||"Amnesty International is a global movement of people fighting injustice and promoting human rights. We work to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied. Currently the world’s largest grassroots human rights organization, we investigate and expose abuses, educate and mobilize the public, and help transform societies to create a safer, more just world. We received the Nobel Peace Prize for our life-saving work." For our local Marquette chapter, we plan to abide by the mission statement and beliefs of Amnesty International. In order to protect people and promote human rights, we will put the spotlight on one or two national issues in order to educate our community. We will then try to enact change at a local level in order to personalize the large scale issue to ourselves and our community. We will be specifically focusing on educating and mobilizing the public through the structure of our organization. Our long term desire is to create a consistent platform for everyone in the community to connect, communicate, and be educated on how national issues are manifested locally and be mobilized to do something about them. We will create a space where the underrepresented can become empowered by not only speaking on the issues they have dealt with first hand, but taking steps to change those issues themselves.
