NCLL offers programs suggested by NCLL participants and community members who share their interest and desire to learn and stay active with others. The NCLL curriculum programming is diverse. More than twenty classes or events are offered each term in the day or evening - summer/fall, winter, and spring. If you have an interest, hobby, activity or experience you would like to share please contact the NCLL office, director or attend an NCLL Curriculum Committee Meeting!
The complete schedule is announced to members about two weeks prior to each season through email and then posted on this NCLL website. Individual classes and events are then announced to the public just ahead of the their scheduled dates through public media and the NCLL email list. In addition to the early announcement of the complete schedule, members enjoy reduced rates for class participation. Membership information
Three ways to register:
Print, fill out and mail the Registration Form with a check for fees to NCLL, 406 Cohodas Hall, 1401 Presque Isle Ave, Marquette, MI, 49855. Write your check to Northern Michigan University.
E-mail NCLL@nmu.edu or
Call the NCLL office at 227-2979
To hold your slot in the class(es), full payment must be received with your registration.
Registration deadlines and class size limits are listed with each class. Register and send payments early to ensure your opportunity to participate.
5-minute wait time. If you are attending a class that specifies meeting at a parking area, the group will wait no more than 5 minutes beyond the posted start time.
Cancelation notice. If you cannot attend a class for which you already paid, please notify the NCLL office, 227-2979, on or before the class registration deadline to receive a credit or refund.
Smoking is strongly discouraged on field trips except while traveling in your own vehicle.
When you register for a program, it’s possible that you cancel before the registration deadline or the program is canceled. In these cases, prepaid fees are credited to you. However, having credits recorded in the office computing system has become too cumbersome, leading to confusion and errors. The new program lets you keep track of your own credits by sending you an email that acts as a credit voucher. If you do not have an email address on file, the office will print out a similar message and mail it to you.
The wording of the email is similar to the following:
“Because you canceled your registration for program #xyz before the registration deadline, you will receive $3 credit to be used toward another class. To use this credit, please print and attach this email to your registration, or bring it in person to an event.”
“Because program #xyz, had to be canceled, you will receive $3 credit to be used toward another class. To use this credit, please print and attach this email to your registration, or bring it in person to an event.”
The registration form also contains the waiver. A newly signed waiver is needed beginning July 1 each year and is good until June 30 of the following year. This coincides with the membership year.
Class are held in various venues and listed with the class description. Some classes are held at the site of the presenter; some are held at the Peter White Public Library or other community locations; and some are on the NMU campus - most commonly in the Superior Dome. (see Campus Map). During the day, NMU requires parking stickers in designated lots (see Campus Parking Map). The Dome permits visitor parking without a pass. Check with the class liaison if you need a visitor's pass.
