Dear students and friends: 

May is already here! I am so happy that the sun has made its presence known over the past week. I want to express my gratitude to the NAS faculty and staff as well as the Faculty Affairs Committee for their diligent efforts this past academic year. I would also like to express my sincere admiration for the many students who were active in the Native American Student Association (NASA) and those students who took our Native American Studies minor classes this past year. Chi miigwech!

The Center’s summer hours are is open from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Need some summer reading books? Visit our resource room. Plenty of Native fiction to keep you going during these summer months.

May 13-15– College Prep Medicine Wheel Academy for 10-12th graders. Special guest Annelind Wakejigig will be our keynote speaker on Friday evening at 6 p.m. Her talk will take place at the Mead Auditorium in the West Science building.

June 28-July 2– the annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program will once again be held for middle school students at Camp Nesbit and NMU. If you need an application, visit our Youth Programs page.

NASA plans to meet over the summer. Charlene Brissette is the new NASA Chair. If you can help out with summer orientation this year, e-mail Charlene at and let her know. Keep an eye out for summer gatherings. The next issue of Anishinaabe News will be mail out to permanent addresses soon.
