NMU’s Department of Languages, Literatures and International Studies offers apprenticeship opportunities in French, German and Spanish.

Students work with professors in a variety of ways, including assisting in a class, providing tutoring or study sessions in the Language Resource Center and helping to develop departmental resources. Students who wish to take advantage of this program should make inquiries to individual faculty members about the possibilities of service. Students can do internships for 1-2 credit hours of FR/GR/SN 299.

Increasing numbers of internships are offered for students who study abroad. For example, we have an excellent record of placing our students of French in a tremendous program for teaching English in French schools, for pay!  If you have a desire to act as an intern during a study abroad experience, be sure to mention it as you meet with the study abroad adviser in the International Programs Office.
