NMU Student Wins Music Scholarship

MARQUETTE, Mich.--Jacob Barnby from Onaway won a $1,000 scholarship from the Northern Michigan University music department. The junior music education major was among nine students competing for the award. They performed advanced instrumental and vocal repertoire at a recent scholarship recital, billed as an "NMU Idol" style competition.

The music faculty judging panel awarded Barnby first place for his performance of the first movement of the "Euphonium Concerto" by Jukka Linkol.

Honorable mentions went to percussionist Amanda Fliflet, a junior music education major from Tony, Wis.; and alto saxophone player Audra Hagan, a junior music education major from Iron Mountain.
