MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University Rock and Mineral Club will host a reception and presentation titled “Diamonds: Exploration and Mining Activities throughout the World” on Wednesday, Dec. 3. The event is free and will feature $2,000 in door prizes, including an $800 diamond necklace and jewelry from local artists.

The reception begins at 6 p.m. in Jamrich 102. Shawn Matthew Carlson, a geology graduate of Michigan Tech University, will follow with his presentation at 6:30 p.m. He will talk about his 14-years’ experience searching for diamonds. Carlson will discuss some of his explorations and give a glimpse into the secretive, sometimes dangerous and controversial diamond trade.
