MARQUETTE – Virginia Harris of Marquette will receive an international scholarship to study in Hungary during the 2004-05 academic year. She is a junior at Northern Michigan University, with a double major in international studies and political science.

Harris is a recipient of the National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarship. She will attend Budapest University of Economic Sciences and Public Administration.

According to the Institute of International Education, Congress established the NSEP in the aftermath of the Cold War. The program provides select U.S. students with resources and encouragement to study abroad to acquire language skills and experience in countries critical to the future security of the United States, in exchange for a commitment to seek work in the federal government.

NSEP received 866 scholarship applications this year and granted 181.
