Reduced Tuition for International Students

The NMU International Transfer Academic Award is automatically available to academically talented, undergraduate international students who are transferring to Northern Michigan University as a full-time associate or baccalaureate degree student. Award recipients are expected to engage in cultural sharing or community service activities.

New transfer undergraduate international students who have attended college/post-secondary institution after high school graduation, prior to NMU enrollment

Available Assistance:

$2,200/yr.  Unlimited number of awards.

How to Apply

Automatically awarded after admission to NMU based on documentation of achieving a 3.25 or higher cumulative college GPA in 12 or more college-level credits

Enrollment Requirements:

Full-time undergraduate - 12 credit hours or more

Selection Criteria:

Automatically awarded based on transfer gpa of 3.25 or better. Must hold an F-1 Visa and be in a valid immigration status.

Renewal requirements:

  • Transfers may receive scholarships for up to 6 semesters, or until completion of first bachelor's degree, whichever comes first.
  • Must maintain a cumulative 3.0 NMU G.P.A. and full-time enrollment.
  • Must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy requirements.
  • FAO Monitors annually at the conclusion of the winter semester
