The Northern Michigan University Freshman Fellowship Program invites academically qualified and highly motivated students to apply. To be eligible to apply for participation in the Freshman Fellowship Program, you must be considered a first-year student, have a 2.5 or higher cumulative high school grade point average (GPA), and be accepted to NMU (www.nmu.edu/apply) prior to completing this application.

Have your NMU Identification Number (NMU IN) and high school GPA available prior to beginning. Your NMU Identification Number is included in your acceptance letter. This number is required for your submission to be considered.

The last component of the application asks you to write 3 short essays in which you explain why you want to be a Fellow, the area of research in which you would like to be involved; what experiences and skills you could bring to assisting a faculty mentor; and a summary of faculty you want to work with and why. You may want to write this in a word processor first, then copy and paste your response into the provided text box. *Failure to answer all the questions will result in your application not being considered.*

To complete your application, please provide answers to the following questions. Applications are accepted until 5:00pm (Eastern Time) on Friday, February 16, 2024. If you experience technical difficulties with the application, please contact us via email at freshmanfellows@nmu.edu.

Complete applications will be reviewed and applicants notified in early March.
