Fillmore C.F. Earney Endowment
Established in 2003 with a gift from Dr. Frederick E. Nelson '73 in honor of Dr. Fillmore C. F. Earney, Geography Department Professor Emeritus, Northern Michigan University. This endowment is established to support geographical education and scholarship at Northern Michigan University through the Geography Department. The endowment is concerned particularly with assisting student involvement in research and preparation for graduate study. The fund will provide a yearly amount, to be utilized in support of any of the following purposes ("type of support"): a) Scholarship support for one or more students; b) Geography and earth science field trips for instructional purposes; c) Support for undergraduates to attend academic conferences? a scholarship to defray the expenses of a recent graduate during his or her first year of graduate school? d) Support for an undergraduate to act in the capacity of Teaching Assistant in laboratory or recitation sections of the Department?s courses; e) Support for an undergraduate to act in the capacity of Research Assistant on a project in which a Department or Geography faculty member is engaged; f) Support for off-campus field, library, or archival work by one or more students; g) Support for the required independent research project (?Senior Capstone Experience?) of a geography major in the NMU Honors Program.
