A childless baker and his wife venture into the woods to break the family curse placed on them by the witch. In the woods, they encounter Rapunzel, Cinderella, Jack (and his beanstalk), Little Red Riding Hood and other fairytale characters. In Act II, the characters find out that “happily ever after” isn’t always quite so happy.

Into The Woods Cast Bios
Ethan Bott (Cinderella’s Prince) is thrilled to be undertaking the role of Cinderella’s Prince. Ethan's most recent performances include Joe Trenarry in Beacon On the Rock (Lake Superior Theatre), Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid (Lake Superior Youth Theatre), Aaron Schultz in Legally Blonde (FRT), Marius Pontmercy in Les Miserables (FRT) and Pippin in Pippin (Lake Superior Theatre).
Dave Dagenais (Cinderella’s Father) is thrilled to be a member of the Into the Woods company. A native of Marquette and an educator in his 30th year of teaching, Dave holds degrees in Music Education from NMU and Kansas State University. He is a well-known local performer and director, having been involved in over 100 productions in the last 40 years. Dave has recently been seen on the FRT stage as the Bishop in Les Misérables and was the music director for CHICAGO. Directing highlights: 1776, Pippin and Spamalot at Lake Superior Theatre, Fiddler on the Roof, Haywire, The Christmas Schooner and Les Misérables School Edition at Gwinn High School. Dave is also the Senior Choir Director at Messiah Lutheran Church. Beautiful family: Aaron, Ashley, Corbin, and Blake.
Ben Filipowicz (Rapunzel’s Prince/Wolf) graduated from NMU in 2011 and currently teaches 7th grade at Bothwell Middle School. He is a veteran of more than 20 FRT and Black Box shows during his time at NMU. This is his first performance in 5 years. He is very excited to return to theatre at NMU.
Korinne Griffith (Stepmother) is a theatre and entertainment arts major and media studies minor at Northern Michigan University. Korinne was recently onstage in the Forest Roberts Theatre production of California Suite and Lake Superior Theatre’s production of Quilters. Some other favorite roles include Berthe in Pippin, Martha in The Secret Garden, and Mother Courage in Mother Courage and her Children. Korinne has also worked on many shows as the head of wardrobe crew; some titles include The Producers, Chicago, Tribes, and Little Shop of Horrors. Her thanks go out to Paul for this opportunity, her parents for their trust, and her best friend for their patience.
Liza Hunter (Witch) has a B.S. in theatre performance from Northern Michigan University and is a graduate of the New England Center for Circus Arts. Theatre credits include Maureen in Rent (Vista Theatre), Linda in Blood Brothers (Vertigo Stage), Shelby in Steel Magnolias (Vista Theatre), Janet in The Rocky Horror Show (Vista Theatre), Marta in Company (Forest Roberts Theatre), and Velma Kelly in Chicago (Forest Roberts Theatre). Professional circus credits include Club Med, Aerial Angels, Circus Circus Reno, and Dragone.
Lilith Kontos (Lucinda) is extremely excited to be making her debut with the Forest Roberts Theatre this fall as Lucinda. She is a freshman this year at NMU, but prior to attending college, she starred in shows such as Twelve Angry Jurors, Catch Me if You Can, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, The Giver, and Spy School. Lilith is an English major, but she hopes to be very active in theatre as well!
Tom Lee (Narrator/Mysterious Man) is a senior and Theatre and Entertainment Arts major at Northern Michigan University, minoring in Media Production and New Technologies. Into the Woods is Tom’s third and final production at NMU, as well as his capstone project. His first production at Northern was being in the ensemble cast of Northern’s production of 1776 in the fall of 2012. He is a trained actor from the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts (2011-2012), and has worked at Oakland Community College’s Smith Theatre, working as tech for their various plays, concerts, and lectures. Tom has returned to NMU to complete his Bachelor’s degree and hopes to continue his education and experience at graduate school. Tom Lee is pleased, and honored, to be a part of a wonderful, cast. Please, enjoy the production.
Allison Luciano (Florinda) is thrilled to join the Forest Roberts Theatre family! Although she is a Secondary Education major, she loves that she can still pursue her love for acting. Some of her favorite performances include Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz, and Elaine Harper in Arsenic and Old Lace. This is her first show at the college level and she cannot wait to see what the future has in store.
Alexandra Marks (Jack’s Mother/Giant) is a recent NMU graduate with a B.S. in Theatre and Entertainment Arts, with minors in music and dance During her time at NMU, she has performed as Abigail Adams (1776), Penny (Fallujah), Kate Monster (Avenue Q), Paulette (Legally Blonde), Ensemble (Les Miserables), Adriana (The Comedy Of Errors), The Narrator (She Kills Monsters), Laura (A Paper Tiger In The Rain) and Mama Morton (Chicago). She has also performed with the Lake Superior Theatre as Mama Gina (Beacon On The Rock), Ruth (The Pirates Of Penzance), Fastrada (Pippin) and Jane (Quilters) Her technical credits at Northern include Stage Manager (The Santaland Diaries), Assistant Stage Manager (Tribes), Stage Manager (Little Shop of Horrors). She would like to thank her family for their love and support!
Katherine Marsh (Rapunzel) is a fourth year theatre major at Northern, but this being her first official NMU production! This is her third production of Into the Woods, past roles being Cinderella's Mother, Lucinda, and Rapunzel again. Katherine is also involved in the Lake Effect Show Choir on campus and has worked this summer as a costume crew member for Lake Superior Theatre. She would like to thank her incredible family and friends for supporting her passion for the arts.
John Pann (Baker) is a returning NMU graduate working on his second degree in nursing. He is delighted to be returning to the FRT stage, the first time since 2008's The Full Monty (Malcolm). Other credits include Hello, Dolly (Barnaby), The Secret Garden (Dickon), and Chicago (Amos). Thanks to my family, especially my Mom, Dad, and sister Heather for letting me do this all over again and not giving me too much grief! Also thanks to Edd, Katie, and the PEIF crew. Oh, and his cast mates - you guys made this show a blast!
Sara Parks (Baker’s Wife) graduated from NMU in 2014 with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, and is now employed as a K-12 music teacher for Baraga Area Schools. Sara's past roles include Margaret in Quilters (LST), Catherine in Pippin (LST), Cosette in Les Miserables (FRT), and Norma Ross in Willpower (Marquette Regional History Center). Sara has also performed several times as a featured vocalist with the NMU Jazz Band, NMU Opera Theatre Workshop, and Marquette Choral Society. Sara would like to thank her parents, Jerry and Carol, her husband, Jason, and her two amazing children, Delaney and Shane, for always supporting her passion for performing.
Janae Peterson (Little Red Riding Hood) is an 11th grader at Marquette Senior High School. She is a member of the MSHS Marching Band, MSHS Wind Symphony Band, and the MSHS Redmen Chorale. Her past productions include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Vista Theatre in Negaunee; Willy Wonka Jr., Annie Jr., Little Mermaid Jr., Suessical Jr. and Mary Poppins at Lake Superior Youth Theatre; Oklahoma! and Sound of Music at Negaunee High School; Shrek and Annie Get Your Gun with MSHS, and A Year With Frog and Toad at NMU. She has also participated in State Solo and Ensemble as a solo singer in her 9th and 10th grade years, and Regional Honors Choir as well as State Solo and Ensemble as a solo Horn player as a sophomore.
Gabbi Scarcliff (Cinderella) is excited to be in Into the Woods as her first Forest Roberts Theatre production! Gabbi is a freshman studying psychology at NMU, but she has been singing since she was eight. While this is her first Northern show, she has performed in 15 others, some of them being The Crucible, The Music Man, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
Dorsey Sprouls (Steward) is a senior theatre major at NMU and this is his ninth show with the Forest Roberts Theatre. He has previously been onstage in FRT productions of California Suite (William Warren/Stu Franklyn), Little Shop of Horrors (Orin Scrivello), A Paper Tiger in the Rain (Ben Flynn), and The Comedy of Errors (Dromio of Syracuse). He also appeared in Lake Superior Theatre's production of Monty Python's Spamalot (Prince Herbert/Historian/etc.)

Dane Wurmlinger (Jack) is extremely proud to be performing once again at the Forest Roberts Theatre with this hardworking team. He has come all the way from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to study what he is passionate about. Dane is no stranger to the stage, and has worked in community and professional theatre for most of his life. This is his second year at Northern, and he is anxious to see where his studies will take him—past performance credits at the Forest Roberts Theatre include Little Shop of Horrors (Audrey II Puppeteer) as well as this year’s production of Haunted Theatre.

Paul Truckey (Director) Acting credits include leading roles in over 50 productions, most notably the roles of Grantaire, Javert and Thenardier in the Broadway and National touring companies of Les Misérables, Fredrik in A Little Night Music for the Pine Mountain Music Festival, Pete the Barber in the opera, Rockland, George Jr. in Utah! The Musical at the Tuachan Amphitheatre, and George in Sunday in the Park with George. As a director, he has staged dozens of productions, most recently Little Shop of Horrors, The Comedy of Errors, 1776, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, A Flea in Her Ear, The Mousetrap, Actletes, The Foreigner, The Full Monty, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Paul is currently a professor of theatre at Northern Michigan University, and is a member of Actors Equity Association.
Emily Fitzpatrick (Music Director) has a bachelor of music education from Northern Michigan University and a master of arts in educational technology from Michigan State University. She is the music teacher at Lakeview Elementary School in Negaunee. Emily was the vocal music director for Les Misérables, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Rent at NMU and has assisted with direction of many high school and community theatre productions in the area. Her favorite roles she played on the FRT stage are Myrtle Mae in Harvey, Virginia Clemm Poe in Tell-Tale, and Ermengarde in Hello, Dolly!
Victor G. Holliday (Set Design, Properties Master) has been the designer for the Forest Roberts Theatre since 1982, and also served as technical director from 1982-2000. He earned his bachelor of arts in psychology from St. Johns University (Minnesota), and his master of fine arts in scenic design from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Before coming to NMU, he was designer and technical director at Trenton State College (now The College of New Jersey). Vic has also designed for summer and community theatres and dance companies in Hawaii, Michigan, Wisconsin, New Jersey, and North Carolina. Outside of the theater, his major interests are history (particularly military and naval history) and ship modeling (pre-dreadnought steel navy), and he is an active ailurophile.
David Pierce (Technical Director, Lighting Design) began teaching at NMU in 2014. Holding an MFA in Theatre Technology for the University of Wisconsin-Madison, David also serves as Technical Director and Production Manager for the Forest Roberts Theatre. His courses include Entertainment Technology 1, Entertainment Technology 2, and Stage Management. He also served as Lighting Designer for past FRT productions of Little Shop of Horrors and Into the Woods.
Shelley M. Russell (Costume Designer) A professor of theater arts at Northern Michigan University, Dr. Russell has enjoyed a long and wide-ranging career in the performing arts. At NMU, she has directed over 60 productions, including Beauty and the Beast, Rent, Peter Pan and Hamlet. Dr. Russell also has a long list of costume design credits (most recently, Chicago), and stage weaponry. Beginning her career as an actor and singer, she has remained active in musical theater, most recently seen as Berthe in Pippin. In the region, Shelley is perhaps best known for her playwriting efforts, which have been honored by the State of Michigan, the Michigan Historical Society, the Jane Chambers Playwriting Competition, the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival and the National Endowment for the Arts. These works include Holdin’ Our Own, a drama about the lake boat, Edmund Fitzgerald, a regional trio of musicals, Haywire, Beacon on the Rock, and Points North, and her most recent dramatic piece, Water, Woman. In 2011 Dr. Russell was honored by NMU with the Distinguished Faculty Award.
Emily Kinne (Production Stage Manager, Properties Master) is a senior theater major at Northern Michigan University. She has been an assistant stage manager for many productions at the Forest Roberts Theater including Les Misérables, Avenue Q, Legally Blonde, and Complete Female Stage Beauty, and has stage managed Comedy of Errors, and Jack and the Beanstalk. She also worked as an ASM on the Lake Superior Theater production of Pippin. She is also a stage properties designer, and has designed the props for Les Misérables, Pinocchio, Jack and the Beanstalk, and A Paper Tiger in the Rain, Little Shop of Horrors, and California Suite.
