Tony-Award winner George C. Wolfe’s groundbreaking play, The Colored Museum, has electrified, shocked, and delighted audiences of all colors. “A black comedy” broken up into 11 “exhibits” or sketches, The Colored Museum takes a satirical look at prominent themes and identities of African American culture and what it means to be black in contemporary America. The show will be performed one time in full. Select scenes, "exhibits", from the show ill be performed in the Fringe Festival as well.

Colored Museum Cast Bios

Samantha Cole (Miss Pat/Normal Jean/Janine) is a junior from Detroit, Michigan majoring in Psychology Grad Prep scheduled to graduate in December 2017. She earned her associates degree in December 2015. Sam hopes to open her own psychology practice focusing on relationship counseling and family matters. Previous performance credits include A Comedy of Errors (Captain) and A Paper Tiger in the Rain (Jess) at the Forest Roberts Theatre.

Nathan Morgan (Guy/Waiter/Narrator/The Man/Flo'rance) is a junior biology major from West Branch Michigan. While at Northern, he has been involved in many FRT shows both on and off the stage. Previous performance credits include A Comedy of Errors (Angelo) and Ten Minute Play Festival. He is also the assistant box office manager for the Forest Roberts Theatre. 

Toni Poyser (Aunt Ethel) is a senior Nursing major at NMU. She is expecting to graduate in June of 2016. Her favorite hobby is singing.

 

Jaxine Rivera (Medea/Little Girl) is a freshman at Northern Michigan University majoring in Theatre. She graduated in 2015 from Stevenson High School. During her high school years, she performed in all the children plays from 2011-2015; though for community service, she enjoyed her time with her beloved group. In recent events, last Halloween she participated in Haunted Theatre at the Forest Roberts Theatre (Voodoo Priestess for the adult show, Puppet for the children's show).

 

Javonte Thompson (Walter-Lee-Beau-Willie-Jones) is a senior graduating in April 2016 with his Bachelor's Degree in Theatre and Entertainment Arts. He is originally from Detroit, MI. Javonte has been involved in theatre for nearly ten years and has appeared in a number of productions at NMU, including Cootie Shots (2015), Haunted Theatre (2013), Legally Blonde (2013), and The Ten-Minute Play Festival (2012). In his free time, Javonte enjoys video games, weight lifting, and playing competitive sports.

 

Morgan Dania Waller (Girl/The Woman/Lady in Plaid/Lala) is a senior from Chicago, IL. She is a Public Relations major and Political Science minor. Her plans after graduating are to work and attend graduate school overseas while studying Public Affairs. She is very outgoing and she loves to dance! She has been dancing since the age of three and modeling since the age of thirteen. In her free time, she likes to travel; her dream is to travel the world and see what it has to offer.  

 

Veronica "Roni" Whigam (Lawanda/Mama/Topsy) is originally from Detroit. She's been in a few shows previously, in high school and middle school, such as Lindsey Borden, Dream Girls, Once Upon a High School, and a few more. She is currently an undeclared major, but plans to graduate in 2020.

 

Colored Museum Crew Bios

Coop Bicknell (Production Stage Manager) is a junior theater major at Northern Michigan University. Previous production credits include Legally Blonde: The Musical (Assistant Stage Manager) A Paper Tiger in the Rain (Production Stage Manager) and She Kills Monsters (Assistant Stage Manager) at the Forest Roberts Theatre. Coop would like to thank his family, his friends, his lovely girlfriend, and the talented cast and crew of The Colored Museum for their support.

 

Jacob DeLong (Production Stage Manager) is a senior Theatre major with a Dance minor at Northern Michigan University. Some of his recent performances include Prince Siegfried in the Marquette Center for Dance production of Swan Lake, Chip Tolentino in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at the Vista Theatre, White Rabbit/Pied Piper and Dance Captain in Shrek: The Musical, Devil/Dance Captain in All Shook Up, Corny Collins Kid/Dancer in Hairspray (all at theElkhart Civic Theatre), and Him in An American in Paris, Ensemble/Student in Les Miserables, Frat Boy/Dance Captain in Legally Blonde, George Reed in 1776, and Dreamer in The Secret Garden at the Forest Roberts Theatre. He has recently been the assistant to the choreographer for Seussical Jr., as well as assistant choreographer for Aladdin Jr. and The Wizard of Oz (Superior Arts Youth Theatre). He has also choreographed for Kids Sing Broadway at SAYT.

 

Cecelia Holt (Costume Designer) is a junior Zoology major who is very excited to be designing costumes for the first time at the Forest Roberts Theatre! She has been in shows in her hometown as well as at the FRT, and some of her favorite roles have been Brooke Windham (Legally Blonde), Sylvia (All Shook Up), Fiona (Murders in the Heir), and Agnes (She Kills Monsters). She is so excited for this opportunity!

 

Anna LaBreche (Properties Master) is a Theatre and Entertainment Arts major with a minor in Art and Design. Since being at NMU, she has directed a ten-minute play, Guys, in the Ten-Minute Play Festival at the Forest Roberts Theatre. From there, she also competed in the SDC Directing Competition at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF). She has also worked on A Coupla White Chicks Sitting Around Talking (Light Board Operator), Little Shop of Horrors (Assistant Lighting Designer/Light Board Operator), and Cootie Shots (Assistant Stage Manager/Co-Costume Designer/Assistant Lighting Designer/Co-Scenic Designer). This past summer, she was the House Manager at Lake Superior Theatre. She would like to thank her family and friends for their love and support!

 

David Pierce (Technical Director) David came to NMU from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, KY where he had been Technical Director for the Department of Theatre and Dance. Other TD credits include Adirondack Theatre Festival, Little Theatre on the Square, and Four Seasons Theatre Company.  David holds a BS in Construction Management from Ferris State University and an MFA in Theatre Technology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In his spare time, he loves to be outdoors. He enjoys hiking, boating, fishing, biking, and bonfires.  He’s also a boisterous Tigers fan!

 

Anthony Pruett (Assistant Director) has a professional Performance Certificate from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC. He is currently a senior in the International Studies program with a Certificate in Spanish and a minor in Theatre at Northern Michigan University. He has appeared most recently in Holdin' Our Own (J.X. Jamrich Auditorium), The California Suite (James A. Panowski Black Box Theatre), Chicago (Forest Roberts Theatre), and Willpower (Kaufman Auditorium). 

 

Ansley Valentine (Director) is Director of Theatre at Northern Michigan University. A seasoned actor, director and choreographer, recent productions include Hello, Dolly!; Annie Get Your Gun; I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change; The King and I; The Sound of Music; and Mrs. Warren's Profession. His resume boasts professional and academic theatres across the country (including productions with the Indianapolis, Detroit and Alabama Symphonies). He holds a Master of Fine Arts from Indiana University and a Bachelor of Arts from Wabash College.
