If Someone Reports Sexual Harassment To You - What You Should Do
If sexual harassment is reported to you:
- take it seriously.
- write down specifically what is reported. Write down as much information as possible.
- report it immediately. Each day you let go by without reporting it puts the individual's safety at risk, and the university at legal and financial risk.
- do not try to conduct your own investigation.
- take the complaint to Equal Opportunity, Human Resources or the Dean of Students office.
Individuals who are supervisors/managers are legally responsible to report sexual harassment. You and your employer can be held legally liable if you know of harassment and do nothing to correct or stop it.
