Northern Michigan University’s Economics Department offers one annual award: Outstanding Graduating Senior, selected by the faculty.
Outstanding Graduating Senior
Each year, the Economics Department recognizes an outstanding graduating senior, who is selected on the basis of his or her academic work, campus leadership and personal qualities.
For 2015-16, the economics faculty chose Mary Zhulkie of Ishpeming, Michigan. Mary impressed the Department’s faculty with her exceptional achievement in both theoretical and applied economics. She transferred during the second semester of her sophomore year and spent the next two summers taking classes in order to graduate in four years. Mary has a 4.0 GPA in economics and a 3.91 GPA overall. She would like to go on to graduate school to get a Ph.D. in economics. She hopes to one day get a job doing research and keep learning every day for the rest of her life.
