Exploring Forestry

Students will conduct a health checkup of a local forest or wooded area, take forestry measurements and evaluate the ecological services provided by trees and forests.
Students will be participating in the following activities: Initial introduction and videos at the Jacobetti Complex; introduction to the forest products industry, forestry, loggin and trucking operations; logging virtual reality tours via virtual reality glasses; visit a logging site (possibly an active operation).
Transportation waivers/permission slips are required for this camp. 
2019 Agenda:

9 – 9:45                 Introduction to forestry, forest products careers and present forestry and harvesting operations videos

9:45 – 10:30        Tree identification and Virtual Reality Logging Tours

10:30 – 11:30     Leave and transport to Perkins Park, Big Bay

11:30 – 12:30     Lunch at Perkins Park (Hots dogs/chips/beverages at Perkins Park or bring your own lunch)

12:30 – 1              Transport to harvesting operational site

1 – 2:30                Tour of harvesting site and harvesting equipment, meet harvesting staff

2:30 – 3:30          Return to Jacobetti Center
