*A degree is not earned. Students earn a certification which is noted on their transcript. Students also receive a certificate at the Language Certification Ceremony hosted by the Modern Languages and Literatures Department. Students must apply for certification at mll@nmu.edu the semester that they complete the requirements, in accordance with the following schedule:  November 1 for fall semester, April 1 for winter semester, and July 15 for a summer session.

**The prerequisites for FR 202 are FR 101, FR 102 and FR 201. Many students are able to bypass these courses because they have prior French language experience. See the Modern Languages and Literatures placement policy.
