Campus Wide Sculptural Collaboration Project Proposal-Resolution

Revised Student Voter Participation Resolution

The ASNMU resolution, originally written by College of Arts and Sciences Representative Cody Mayer, with co-sponsors, Vice President of ASNMU, Connor Loftus, and The Woods Representative, Simon Moesch, earlier in the 2017-2018 year, was amended by the General Assembly to ask for excused absences for students on election days, instead of an Academic Holiday, in order to get support from the Academic Senate. This resolution is currently being reviewed by the Academic Senate and if approved, will be sent to the Provost for approval.

Material Cost Estimate Resolution

ASNMU approved a resolution written by College of Arts and Sciences Representative Norah Johnson, with co-sponsor, Quad 2 Representative, Marissa Bekkering, acknowledging that faculty are required to submit proposals for new courses and to change courses objectives and within these proposals they are required to place together a syllabus complete with suggested materials and texts the students shall need to acquire and that the bookstore is able to put together an estimates cost for the required materials. This resolution asked for ASNMU to advocate for the sharing of information about price of course materials to the general population of students through the course description. The resolution further asks that faculty be responsible for amending the courses they teach to include the estimates for both new, used, and rental costs, when applicable, in their proposals to CUP. Upon ASNMU's approval, this resolution will now be sent to CUP.

Student Voter Participation Resolution

ASNMU approved a resolution written by College of Arts and Sciences Representative Cody Mayer, with co-sponsors, Vice President of ASNMU, Connor Loftus, and The Woods Representative, Simon Moesch, acknowledging that youth voter participation in elections, is at a low, and how it can be difficult for youth to vote due to classes. This resolution asked for support from ASNMU in order to create an academic holiday for all state and national elections. Upon ASNMU's approval, this resolution will now be sent to the Board of Trustees, the University President, Academic Senate, State Representative Sara Cambensy of the 109th District, and other groups it may concern.


2016-2017 Legislation

Revised Indigenous Peoples' Day Resolution

The ASNMU resolution, originally written by General Studies Representative Sheila Williams in the 2015-2016 year, was amended by the General Assembly to get support from the Academic Senate and also received support from the NMU President's Council, however, the Board of Trustees did not feel the resolution was a piece of legislation they could vote on.

Food Insecurity Resolution

ASNMU approved a resolution written by Off-Campus Representative Connor Loftus, with co-sponsors from the Dean of Students, Chris Greer, Vice President of ASNMU, Xavier Pete-Dye, Director of External Affairs, Taylor Preul, Off-Campus Representative, Sarah Head, and Quad 1 Representative, Tory Casal, to explore how many NMU students, faculty, and staff miss meals or go hungry due to finances, time constraints, or for other reasons. Upon ASNMU approval, this resolution was sent to the Board of Trustees, University President, the Dean of Students, and other groups it concerned. This resolution resulted in the creation of a University working committee dedicated to exploring this issue through a survey that actively worked to bring a food pantry to our campus.


2015-2016 Legislation

Indigenous People's Day Resolution

ASNMU approved a resolution written by General Studies Representative Sheila Williams, with co-sponsors from the Native American Student Organization, American Indian Science and Engineering Society, and Native American Language and Culture Club, in support of Indigenous People's Day at Northern Michigan University. This day will celebrate the history and culture of Indigenous Peoples in the United States, on a day traditionally known for Christopher Columbus. Upon ASNMU's approval, this resolution will be sent to the Academic Senate for support. Upon the Academic Senate's support, this resolution will be sent to the Board of Trustees, the University President, the Chief Diversity Officer, State Representatives, and other groups it may concern.
