For the week of June 7, 2010
From the 6th floor
We're looking at a cooler start to the week in Upper Michigan. Many areas were under a frost advisory Sunday night. Temperatures in the early morning hours hovered around freezing. The forecast calls for a bit of warm-up with some sunshine early in the week and rain moving in mid-week.
May 2010 capped of the warmest spring in 50 years over Upper Michigan. At least, "That's What Karl Says". Karl is Karl Bohnak, chief meteorologist at TV 6 in Marquette. It was the warmest March on record at the National Weather Service near Negaunee, coming in at 10.1 degrees above average. April ended 7.8 degrees above normal, while May came in at 4.7 degrees above the long-term average. So all those people who have been saying we've had the nicest spring in years have the facts to back up their statements.

Back by popular demand...the Summer Prize Package
The summer tourist season is just getting under way and we know that means many folks will be visiting Marquette. In the past, alumni - young and old - have made the 6th floor a stop on their campus tour. This year, we'd like to surpass last year's record setting-number of visitors to the 6th floor, so we're giving away a great prize package. Visit us at the Alumni Association between now and Monday, Aug. 23 and you'll be eligible to win our summer prize basket.
Everyone who visits gets a chance to enter their name in the contest. Alumni Association members get two chances. Get an extra chance to win by joining the association during your visit.
We're located in room 603 Cohodas Hall. Stop by, say hello and register to win!
Homecoming 2010 will be here before you know it

|"I can't wait for my son to come up for orientation this summer to begin the fall semester 2010 as a transfer student from Grand Rapids Community College. I want to come to the alumni office and get our picture taken! He will be my second kid coming to NMU and following in my footsteps, so to speak. The new MBA program is of interest to me, and hopefully, him, too. I received my MBA from Northern in Dec. of 1977. Maybe one of the last to graduate from that program? It's always fun, too, to tell people that I graduated at the very top of my class...of course, there were only two of us to graduate, so it wasn't too hard to be # 1. My son will be coming with an associate degree in business, so who knows, maybe we can be the first father/son NMU MBA grads some day? Something to shoot for. I'm probably more excited than my son, Tom, about his choice of Northern!"
