Admissions Counselor, Eastern/Western Upper Peninsula - First Year Students

Hometown:

Tomahawk, WI

Professional/Personal Biography:

I graduated from Northern in 2020 with my Bachelor of Social Work degree. I came into Northern as a first generation, low income student and was provided ample resources to graduate and go on to graduate school at University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, where I got my Master of Social Work degree. I found myself in the mental health care field. However, my heart missed Marquette and I had a passion for Northern. This is when I discovered the opportunity to begin a career as an Admissions Counselor at NMU... I like to joke that I was already sending people to Northern without even working in admissions prior to this career, as I was already a big fan of Northern and the resources provided here.

Most Memorable College Experience:

My most memorable college experiences land in the Northern residence halls. I was fortunate to work in the residence halls as a Resident Advisor. During this time, I was involved in events such as a Mocktail Murder Mystery party, in which we created an entire party, assigned characters, and enjoyed some very good mocktails. The NMU residence halls are the main area I felt welcomed immediately on campus, I would recommend the experience to anyone!

Favorite Marquette Activity:

WOW. This is a hard choice. All of my favorite activities involve my dogs and my fiance. Luckily, Marquette is very dog friendly. Whether it be walking through Presque Isle, hiking Sugarloaf, or getting ice cream from Frosty Treats, my dogs are always involved.

Best advice you received regarding college or would give someone else entering college:

Put yourself out there! Your college experience can be what you make it. NMU has SO much to do that you can really find your niche. The more you get involved in, the more successful you'll be!
