Lubig Receives MCC's Top Honor

Joseph Lubig (Education) has received Michigan Campus Compact’s highest honor: the annual Faculty/Staff Community Service-Learning Award. Lubig was recognized on Tuesday at the MCC’s 14th annual “Institute: Service-Learning and Civic Engagement” at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme, Mich.

The NMU academic service learning advisory board nominated Lubig for the award. He has incorporated civic engagement into the student teaching experience for future educators while developing local, regional and national publications on the positive relationship between academic service learning and civic efficacy.

Lubig recently enrolled 28 student teachers into the Michigan Service Scholars Program. He has actively promoted civic engagement through his work with the NMU advisory board, the Michigan Community Service Commission, the Marquette-Alger Regional Educational Service Agency’s Learn and Serve Grant Committee, the NMU Youth Wildcat Scholars Program and his own teaching.

Michigan Campus Compact is a coalition of college and university presidents committed to creating and expanding opportunities for their students to become civically engaged citizens.
