Boyle Named Commencement Speaker

Kevin Boyle, a Northern alumnus and attorney with Latham & Watkins L.L.P., will be the keynote speaker at the Dec. 15 commencement ceremony. He also will receive an honorary doctorate of mass communications degree.

Boyle is a partner resident in the law firm’s Washington, D.C., and Reston, Va., offices. He is a member of the corporate department and its technology transactions and communications practice groups.

He began his legal practice primarily representing clients in the acquisition and sale of radio and television stations and other communications industry assets, and in proceedings before the Federal Communications Commission. While Boyle continues to represent clients before the FCC, including WUPX at Northern, his practice now focuses on outsourcing, technology transactions and other technology-related matters.

Boyle graduated from NMU in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting. He was a member of the Wildcat Marching Band, chair of the student-faculty judiciary and president of the Mortar Board. Boyle maintains ties to the university as vice president of the NMU Foundation. He earned his juris doctorate from Pepperdine University School of Law in 1984 and worked at another law firm in Washington, D.C., before joining Latham as an associate in 1987.
