Art and Design Addition Honored

The Art and Design North facility was recognized with an award of merit in the 2007 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Wisconsin design awards program. The expansion and addition project was designed by Milwaukee-based Hammel, Green and Abrahamson Architects, along with Duce Simmons Associates of Troy.

"This building displays a lot of sophistication," wrote the jury in its comments on the award. "It works so well with its main concept and takes it in all three dimensions. The spine is well articulated in the thought of the building. There are really nice curtain wall details. The gallery spaces work quite well and have a nice feel to them. The plan is very strong; and it is carried out extremely rigorously throughout the whole building. There is a special graphic quality to this building, both day and night, that is exciting and interesting."

AIA Wisconsin presented three honor awards for overall design excellence and eight merit awards recognizing excellence in particular aspects of project design.
