Gulis to Address NMU Grads

Stephen Gulis Jr., a successful businessman and Northern alumnus, will speak at the next month's commencement ceremony and receive an honorary doctor of business degree.

Gulis is the executive vice president and chief financial officer for Wolverine World Wide, Inc., a leading global marketer of branded footwear that is headquartered in Rockford. He leads the divisional and corporate finance and treasury, information systems, legal, investor relations and strategic planning and research functions for the business. Gulis received a bachelor in business administration from NMU in 1979.

“My goal for the speech is to leave students with some thoughts they’ll reflect upon at as they embark on their next journey in life, and something they may refer back on as they go through life,” Gulis said.

His speech will center on the unlimited possibilities available to students who put in the necessary effort. Gulis will share life lessons he has learned along the way to help students get through tough times. One such lesson is that people need to make sacrifices to be successful, but it’s important to maintain balance while building a career.

“I plan to tell them not to forget their family and friends along the way,” Gulis said.

The commencement ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 5, in the Superior Dome.
