Achievements

Colleagues Joanna Mitchell and Bettina Meyer (AIS-Library Services, pictured left and right) were honored for 12 years of service to the Council of State University Library Directors'/Deans’ Cooperative Collection Development Discussion Group. They are shown with Timothy Richards, director of the Mardigian Library at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, who presented their plaques. Mitchell and Meyer founded the Cooperative Collection Development Discussion Group in 1995 and co-chaired its semi-annual meetings through this year. They are both retiring.

The group's members have explored cooperative solutions to common concerns such as electronic journal management, preservation of electronic resources and new technologies to facilitate access to resources. "With the support of the Michigan Library Cooperative, access to electronic resources has expanded swiftly to a much wider audience and at a reduced cost through statewide cooperation," Mitchell said. "For example, more than 400 electronic journals from Sage Publishing became accessible to member libraries, including NMU, on Jan. 1."

Northern's clerical/technical union received two honors from the UAW Local Union Press Association: third place in the "best Web site" category; and first place in its division in the "general excellence-print" category for the UAW Local 1950 newsletter, The Flame.
