Scheidler
Student Employee of the Year
Natalie
Scheidler, a senior history major from Holly, has been named Northern
Michigan University’s Student Employee of the Year.
Scheidler
has worked as a student assistant in the Central Upper Peninsula
and NMU Archives for nearly four years. She has taken on more responsibility
the past two as senior assistant. In that capacity, Scheidler oversees
the general management of the archives, including training and supervising
other student assistants. She has also worked on special projects
such as developing an instructional workshop on historical research
methods and the critical analysis of primary sources, and coordinating
a series of workshops on genealogy and family history research and
preservation.
"Ms.
Scheidler possesses a keen and questioning intellect and is very
comfortable and effective in expressing herself in public,"
Marcus Robyns (Archives) wrote in his nomination
letter. "Her composition of archival finding aids, reports
and procedures demonstrates well-developed writing skills and reveals
an ability to think critically when piecing together information
on records creators and collection content. She is simply indispensable
to me and the archives. I hardly think of her as a student assistant;
rather, she is the consummate professional and colleague. Her service
to Northern, without question, merits the award."
Scheidler
will be formally recognized along with other student employees at
an April luncheon.
