Mathematics and Science Education at NMU

The objectives of the Seaborg Center are to provide: (1) programs that support the teaching and learning of science and mathematics at all levels, but particularly in the elementary and secondary schools of the upper peninsula; (2) curriculum support to the schools; (3) mathematics and science teacher education; (4) professional development opportunities for teachers; and (5) enrichment experiences for students.

The Seaborg Center is one of the 33 designated mathematics/science centers in the State of Michigan. It maintains a resource facility that includes a variety of materials (publications, activity kits, videos, etc.) that teachers, students, and faculty may borrow for use in a classroom.

Mathematics and Science Education Programs

The Seaborg Center offers courses that are designed for students in the elementary and secondary teacher education curriculum. In addition faculty from the center advise students in the secondary education science majors. At the graduate level, the Seaborg Center offers degree programs in mathematics and science teacher education.
