Disability Services

Northern Michigan University fully endorses the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  Reasonable and effective accommodations and services will be provided to students with disabilities whose requests are made in a timely manner, with appropriate documentation, in accordance with federal, state, and university guidelines.

These accommodations may include, but are not limited to, note-takers for students while they are in class, test readers to orally state the printed word, extended test time, testing in a separate room, etc.  Additional support services, such as tutoring, academic advising, counseling services, etc., are available to all students through university resources.

  • take students through a typical college day by serving as "student shadows."

  • travel to schools around the Upper Peninsula to share the value of continuing education beyond high school.

  • serve as mentors and counselors at the annual Native American Summer Youth Program and periodic retreats.
