APPLICABILITY

PROCEDURE

General:  Northern Michigan University will attempt to accommodate requests for the use of University facilities to conduct funeral or memorial services from surviving family members of deceased employees, retirees, or alumni.

Submitting Requests:  All requests for the use of university facilities should be directed to the Conference & Catering department @ extension 6338 (MEET). Requests can be verbal, in writing, or by email to meet@nmu.edu.  Upon receiving a request, the Conference & Catering department will evaluate to determine if the request can be granted.  The Conference & Catering department will advise the family contact member(s) of costs for food, audio-visual, set-up and other arrangements to meet family wishes.

Accommodating Request:  In attempting to accommodate such requests, administrators are directed to not interfere with University programs or operations and to not schedule such services in rooms adjacent to occupied rooms that are concurrently in use unless there is a sufficient degree of isolation between the rooms so that neither activity is likely to be affected.  All funerals and memorial services will be held in the University Center unless another location is approved by the President of the University or the President’s designee.
