CONFERENCE AND GUEST HOUSING POLICY

PURPOSE

It is important that University conference and guest housing be available to persons associated with Northern Michigan University, or to persons referred to NMU by local commercial lodging owners when lodging in the local Marquette area is not available.

GENERAL:  This statement establishes University policy regarding the authorized use of conference and guest housing in Meyland Hall or similar facilities utilized for such purposes.  This Policy does not apply to permanent or temporary student contract housing except as stated below.

APPLICABILITY

Any person associated with Northern Michigan University, or persons referred to NMU by local commercial lodging owners when lodging owners when lodging owners in the local Marquette area is not available.

POLICY

CONFERENCE HOUSING:  Under this general term, housing is provided to groups or individuals who are participating in an on-campus conference, seminar workshop, training sessions or similar activity.  These activities may or may not be sponsored by a University department, but must be utilizing University facilities (conference rooms, classrooms, or other facilities) on a contract basis.  Youth camps or other groups (sports, music, academic, etc.) who are here for a scheduled activity officially sponsored by the University are also included in this category.

GUEST HOUSING:  This category applies to groups or individuals who are not participating in a scheduled function as described above, but who are here for a purpose clearly associated with the University; that purpose must be for other than just obtaining lodging or meals.  Guest housing is available for:

POLICY EXCEPTIONS:  Exceptions to the above policy must be authorized by the Director of Housing and Residence Life.
