AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD PROGRAM

PURPOSE
To provide information on the American Express Credit Card Program.
APPLICABILITY
All faculty and staff.
POLICY
Northern Michigan University has an agreement with the American Express Company to provide employees (except AFSCME and Clerical/Technical) who travel for the University, an American Express Corporate Card to charge business travel and entertainment expenses to. Employees are encouraged to sign up for this program, however, it is not mandatory. Benefits available to American Express Card members include:
free membership;
reduction in the number of cash advances and the risks associated with carrying large amounts of cash;
a single card for virtually all travel expenses, eliminating the need for separate airline and car rental credit cards;
$100,000 in Automatic Travel Accident Insurance whenever the card is used to purchase airline or other common carrier tickets;
$1,250 Baggage insurance against the loss of luggage or personal property;
no preset spending limit, so travel plans will not be restricted due to the lack of funds, especially when trips are extended;
may be used for personal use;
emergency check cashing privileges at participating hotels, motels, and American Express Travel Services offices;
uniform receipts that facilitate expense report preparation, and provide vital tax documentation;
additional discounts at most major car rental agencies and Holiday Inns.
