Our Professional Staff

The Jacobetti Center Office staff of the Academic & Career Advisement Center are dedicated to assisting students in achieving their academic goals. We are here to guide students through the advising process, work with them to keep track of their academic requirements, assist those experiencing academic difficulty and connect students to support functions offered at NMU, including; orientation, UN100 classes, tutoring, etc.

Chris Fries
Assistant Director, Academic & Career Advisement Center

Chris enjoys assisting, advising, and talking with students, parents, and colleagues. Chris is originally from Marquette and is a graduate of NMU (BS and Master's). He lives with his wife Jill in Negaunee Township and enjoys outdoor activities, playing basketball, and spending time with his family and friends. Outside of the University he is a Citizen for a Free Flowing Lower Dead River Watershed, a member of the Superior Watershed Partnership, Secretary of the Fred Waara Chapter of Trout Unlimited, a member of UPEC, and the advisor to the NMU student group the Piscators. Chris also supports many charitable activities including The Marquette County Humane Society and WNMU Public Radio 90.

Jeff Korpi
Coordinator, Academic Support Service

Jeff graduated from NMU with a Bachelor’s in social sciences and is currently in process of completing his Masters Degree in Criminal Justice. Jeff worked previously as a Resident Director in Gant and Magers Hall and has also worked as the Assistant Director of Orientation, and as a Graduate Assistant in the Dean of Students Office. Jeff enjoys bow hunting, fishing and many outdoor activities and also enjoys playing intramural sports with students.  Jeff is originally from San Antonio, Texas but currently resides in Marquette with his wife Stephanie, and daughter, Izzy. Jeff recently began working with the Academic Career Advisement Center and looks forward to helping students with advising and in UN 100 classes.

Lori Marshall
Senior Secretary

Lori joined the Academic & Career Advisement Center in June 2008.  She graduated from NMU with associate degrees in Early Childhood Development and Office Information Systems.  She resides in Negaunee with her two boys, Brayden and Davin. In her spare time Lori enjoys playing softball.

Michael Turino
Coordinator, Academic Support Service

Mike joined the ACAC staff in January of 2002 as an advisor and UN100 instructor.  He is a native of Ishpeming who currently resides in Negaunee Township with his wife Ann and two of her three children. Michael has four adult children who live in Texas, New York, Champion and Redford Michigan, respectively. He is also a grandfather to 10 granddaughters and one grandson.  He has earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Master's in Education as well as a Master's Degree in Counseling, all from NMU.  Mike is a retired high school vocational welding teacher and counselor.  In his spare time he enjoys building and household projects as well as anything to do with family activities.  Mike's website: http://faculty.nmu.edu/mturino/Home.htm
