Reminder List
- Make sure there is a custodian on duty for performances, give schedule to custodian around the building or to the main office at least a week prior to performance
- You may also have to remind grounds during the winter that you have a matinee or evening performance and that the sidewalks in front of the theatre need to be shoveled and salt/ sanded
- Parking:
- There is NO parking on the loading dock, remind actors and crew
- Performance days/ evening’s actors should find alternative parking to the lot in front of the theatre to open it up for patrons. This will ensure that there will be no delay’s from lack of parking
Communication Triangle
- Discipline- there is a line at NMU, Production Stage Managers organize, run the show and aid in discipline.
- You have no real authority, but don’t let the actors know that. It is Director/ Producer for the performer, and the TD for the crewmember.

Job Descriptions
Production Manager
Purpose
To coordinate, liaise and maintain all production resources in an efficient, effective manner within budgetary parameters.
Responsibilities
* Work as facilitator between director and designer for production components
* Negotiate production staffing with advice from designers and the Artistic Director
* Help designers with organization and pricing
* Work as facilitator between designers and director with close communication with the stage manager
* Supervise budgets and production staff time sheets in cooperation with designers, production staff and the Artistic Director and Office Manager
* Collect all theater drawings and working instrument lists
* Attend all design meetings
* Act as chairperson for production meetings
House Manager
* To efficiently manage the Front of House areas for all Theater productions and events
* To organize and supervise the arrangements of proper staff, equipment, space and supplies to meet the Theater's needs for all Front of House functions
* To liaise with all departments concerning use of Front of House areas Duties
* To select, train and supervise a volunteer staff of ushers, to staff the Front of House areas as required for all performances and theater functions
* To have a thorough knowledge of fire regulations, safety regulations, and evacuation plans
* To make all staff aware of these regulations and to operate all front of house functions abiding by these regulations
* To ensure the safety of all theater patrons while inside the building or on theater grounds
* Before each function, all washrooms, auditoriums and Front of House areas must be checked to ensure their suitability for the public
* To supervise the handling of all patron problems and to personally deal with any particularly delicate situation
* To ensure that the house is returned to the Stage Manager as close to prescribed performance times as possible
* To regulate the entry of latecomers and control disruptive patrons
* To ensure the return of all patrons after intermission
Technical Director
* Assist in the preparation of production budgets
* Manage production budgets in all matters pertaining to set construction, lighting, props and technical personnel
* Prepare, oversee and coordinate the technical schedule in cooperation with the Artistic Director and stage management
* Supervise the scenic carpenter, props builder/buyer and any technical assistants
* Liaise with designers and directors in consultation with the Artistic Director and General Manager
* Coordinate efficient production maintenance program
* Prepare weekly schedules
* Coordination of all technical components of the season
* Coordinate construction schedules and updates
General Safety:

- No actors in the house or wondering around the lobby once in costume, before or after the show
- No food drink or smoking in costume
Emergency Procedures:

First Aid Stations are located in:

First Aid Training:
- Speak with TD about First Aid training for self and crew
Ambulance call
- Post someone at the Loading door to meet the EMS and
Uniformed officers to guide them to the injured person
Manner and Mode of dealing with Emergencies:
- Remain Calm
- It is important to keep your calm and your head, so that your judgment is not impaired by emotions
- Assess the situation quickly and professionally
- Find out what has taken place, what the exact situation is, and what needs to occur to remedy and repair the situation
- Protect your safety
- Never put yourself in dangers way
- Protect the safety of others
- If possible, aid people in evacuation, movement to safer locations, or assist with the aid of individuals involved
- Get assistance and/or help
- Assemble additional staff members and use them to aid in the resolving of the situation
- Notify the proper authorities
- Call Public Safety in case of need for ambulance or Police Services, calling 911 from a campus phone will put you in direct contact with the Campus EMT network. Be specific about the Situation and the Aid needed, try to be precise about the location
Client/ Patron/ Guest takes ill during an event
- Ask Patron if there is anything you can do to help.
- Move patron out of public view, if practical.
- If severe contact Public Safety, make sure a Staff member is stationed outside to guide the EMS when they arrive.
- Give aid while waiting for emergency personnel to arrive.

Minor Fire (Performance)
- Use the nearest fire extinguisher to control the fire
- Stage manager should be notified
- If the fire becomes out of control, follow the procedures for a Major Fire
Major Fire (Performance)
- Initiate fire alarm
- Clear stage of performers and lower Fire Curtain
- If time allows call Public Safety and give location of the fire
- Stage Manager should make the following announcement:
- “Ladies and Gentleman. Please excuse this interruption of the performance. I regret the necessity of asking you to leave the building for a short period of time. The fire alarm has been activated and we request the you evacuate the building until the situation is completely under control. Please follow the instructions of the management staff when exiting the building. Thank you for your cooperation.”
- Turn house and work lights to full
- Stage manager will announce over headset and backstage:
- “Ladies and Gentleman, there is a fire (state location). Please secure your areas and begin evacuating the building.”
- Assist front of house staff in opening all exits and assist patrons in exiting the building and ask then to meet in an open area out of the way of officials. If smoke or Fire blocks the exit, reroute patrons to another exit.
- If time permits, staff and crew will close and lock all doors, windows, and safes. Turn off all electrical equipment and leave building via nearest exit, checking doors for heat before opening, if smoke is present keep near the floor.
- Once out of the building, meet the rest of the staff in a designated area.
- The building may be reoccupied only after the fire alarm has been turned off and the proper authorities have given a clear.
Power Outage (Performance)
- Turn off any power equipment that may cause injury when power is restored.
- Check to make sure that no one is trapped in an area without back-up electricity or emergency lighting.
- Have someone check the elevator to make sure no one is trapped in it.
- Stage manager will announce:
- “Ladies and Gentleman, we are experiencing a power outage. At this time we do not have a way of continuing the performance, if you remain seated we will wait to see if the power is restored, if not we will begin assisting you in exiting the building safely”
- House staff will use flashlights to assist patrons from their seats to a safe exit
Tornado or Severe Weather (Performance)
- Contact Public Safety for a weather report, and to notify them of the situation.
- Stage manager announce to the crew over headset and back stage:
- “Ladies and Gentleman, I have been notified of a sever weather situation, please have all cast and crew move to the dressing rooms, please remain calm, I will give a clear when I have been notified of the weathers passing”
- Stage manager announce to audience:
- “Ladies and Gentleman, we are currently in a (specify situation). Please remain calm and in your seats, house management staff will begin giving instruction of where you need to go for safety.”
Minor Flooding or Sewage Back-up
- Contact Public Safety and Building Maintenance.
- Turn off all running water including washing machines, sinks and toilets.
- Ask patrons to exit the restroom and redirect them to the nearest restroom.
- Post an out of order sign on all effected areas.
- Start mopping, or a bucket brigade, depending on the severity of the flood.

Seating capacity 532 plus 2 wheelchairs Continental seating, 16 rows, orchestra level only. Seating chart available upon request.

Dressing rooms
Newly renovated summer 2005, the dressing rooms are sub stage levels, Men’s Dressing room is SL and Women’s is SR, with direct access to backstage areas. Both rooms have makeup tables with lighted mirrors, sinks, toilets and showers.
Loading Dock
From SL, through electric shop, there are two 8'x8' rollup doors. Loading doors are at ground level; trucks will need ramps.
