Researching for the Environment
Numerous Northern Michigan University faculty and students are involved environmental research.
Recent research in the spotlight includes:
- The NMU Geography Department recently completed a three-year project at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore that uncovered 23 new archaeological sites and reconstructed the Nipissing shoreline as it looked about 4,500 years ago. Full Story
- Senior Tyler Petroelje of West Olive is graduating in May, but unlike many of his peers who are anxiously maneuvering through the final stages of graduate school admissions, Petroelje already has a significant amount of graduate research to his credit. Last summer, the biology major became a part of a Mississippi State University predator-prey study on white tailed deer and fawn survival in the Upper Peninsula. Petroelje is completing this research as a requirement for the MSU graduate program he officially begins in the fall. Full Story
