Leadership Scholarship

The Leadership Scholarship Program seeks to improve extracurricular life at Northern Michigan University by attracting exceptional student leaders to campus. The scholarship competition is held in conjunction with Northern Michigan University's Presidential Scholars Competition program.

The program serves to introduce high school students, school officials, and parents to the outstanding leadership and personal development programs at NMU. Scholarship award winners automatically qualify for acceptance into the Student Leader Fellowship Program.

To be eligible to receive one of 10 renewable Leadership Scholarships worth $2,000 per year, potential students must have at least a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.5 and ACT of 24+ (SAT of 1090+). Once awarded a Leadership Scholarship, recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA as a NMU student, meet once a semester with a member of the Center for Student Enrichment staff, participate in at least one student organization and participate on the selection committee that selects future Leadership Scholarship award winners.

In selecting the most qualified students, the committee considers quality, quantity and nature of high school/community involvement in leadership; progression in the level and type of responsibility; and attitude towards leadership.
