Student Assistant Position Openings

Job Openings at the NMU Archives!

Interested in history, public history, archives, records management, research, website creation, or educational outreach? Do you like old papers, film, and audio? Do you like organizing stuff? Do you enjoy challenging, responsible, para-professional work?

Come apply for a position as a student assistant at the Archives! We have five openings this fall, 2014!
The Archives maintains records of historical value for the central Upper Peninsula and NMU. It also manages the University’s non-permanent records. Employees help with processing the new material, aid patrons with research projects and genealogy, and do research for external reference requests. There are also opportunities to write for the Archives blog and create projects and exhibits about regional and university history.

Job hours for each position are highly flexible.
Specific job openings this fall include:
• An outreach specialist to help plan special educational events and presentations at the Archives. They will also maintain social media and help with reference requests and research projects.
• A web designer to maintain the NMU Archives, Center for Upper Peninsula Studies, and Beaumier Heritage Center websites and code and design new online exhibits.
• A digitization specialist to digitize and preserve film, audio, and other media.
• Two records analysis assistants to help with a campus-wide records survey. This position will involve going to each department and office on-campus and determining which of their records should come to the Archives and which should be temporarily kept and then destroyed.

Each position may include a smattering of other archival tasks as well. More detailed requirements and job duties for each of these descriptions can be found on the Cat Career Tracks website.

Does this sound like fun? Drop off your application at the Archives (LRC 126) before September 5. Please include the general on-campus application found at along with a resume and cover letter explaining why you are interested in the position and why you feel that you would be a good fit at the Archives.
