Restorative & Retributive Justice: A Panel Discussion

Featuring: Dr. Michael Harrington from the Department of Criminal Justice. Dr. Jonathan Allen from the Political Science Department, Dr. David Cooper from the Philosophy Department, Dr. Alan McEvoy from the Department of Sociology and Social Work, with guest moderator Dr. James Greene from the Philosophy Department.

Retributive Justice: a policy or theory of criminal justice that advocates the punishment of criminals in retribution for the harm they have inflicted.
Restorative Justice: a system of criminal justice that focuses on the rehabilitation of offenders through reconciliation with victims and the community at large.

This event will examine both models of justice by asking questions written by Philosophy Club [NMU] members to the panelist. The goal is to create a productive and thoughtful dialogue between panelists, thus allowing students and community members to learn something new about justice, and hopefully examine their own ideas of justice in a new, more mindful light.
There will be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions after the panelist discussion.

This is a free event--Members of the public are welcome.
