During the 2012/13 school year the USOEC had athletes from 16 different states. Athletes traveled from as far as Hawaii (3) to as close as Michigan (10) and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (3). |

Former USOEC speedskating head coach Scott Koons set a world record for the longest time riding a bicycle without using hands during the 2004/05 school year. He accomplished the feat at the Superior Dome, where he road for one hour, completing 44 laps. The total distance Koons covered was roughly 21 kilometers. |

Olympian Shani Davis attended Marquette Senior High and Northern Michigan University while a resident-athlete in short track speedskating at the USOEC. Davis went on to compete in long track winning gold and silver medals in both the 2006 and 2010 Olympic Games. |
![]() USOEC Greco-Roman wrestling and NMU alumnus Dallas Seavey became the youngest musher ever to win the Iditarod. Seavey won the 2012 Iditarod in 9 days, 4 hours, 29 minutes, 26 seconds at age 25. |
