Greco-Roman wrestler Isaiah Varona headshot

Isaiah Varona of Miami is in his first year as a resident-athlete in the Greco-Roman wrestling program and competes at 55 kilograms. A freshman at Northern Michigan University, Varona is a biology and pre-medicine major and earned a spot on the USOEC All-Academic team last semester.

Varona, who is ranked No. 7 in the national senior rankings, placed first at the Austrian Junior Open this past weekend (March 9). His gold-medal performance helped Team USA capture first place out of twelve teams in the tournament.

In his spare time, Varona enjoys playing the piano and is also a member of Lake Effect Show Choir at NMU.
