Club Coach Ryan Hope

MARQUETTE, Mich.—United States Olympic Education Center wrestlers will host an informational meeting for community members who may be interested in joining the Northern Michigan University Angry Fish Wrestling Club. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, in the USOEC wrestling gym in the Superior Dome.

A former USOEC wrestler started the club team, known as the Northern Angry Fish Wrestling Club, several years ago. Effective this wrestling season, the USOEC is taking over team management. That may have resulted in a name change to the NMU Angry Fish Wrestling Club, but USOEC athletes will continue to coach.

“We wanted to ensure the longevity of the program,” said USOEC Director Brian Gaudreau. “By running the club through the USOEC, we are able to make sure the team continually has the coaching and equipment it needs.”

Ryan and Corey Hope of Carol Stream, Ill., have coached the program for four years. They are returning as coaches this year.

“We are happy to see the management of the club turned over to the USOEC,” said Ryan Hope. “It is nice to know that when we graduate, the club team will still be supported.”

Athletes of all ages are encouraged to participate. The team meets from 7-8:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday in the USOEC’s wrestling gym.

Registration fees will be $70 for one NMU semester or $130 for two semesters. Members will also be registered with USA Wrestling and that cost will be deducted from the club membership for the first year if a two-semester membership is purchased.

For more information on joining the NMU Angry Fish Wrestling Club, please visit the club web page or visit office 126 in the Physical Education and Instructional Facility on the NMU campus.
