Two USOEC Wrestlers Take Gold in Sweden
MARQUETTE, Mich. — Two United States Olympic Education Center Greco-Roman wrestlers won gold medals last weekend at the Junior Malar Cup in Vasteras, Sweden. Samuel Jones of Folsom, La., took first place in the 60 kilogram weight class and Orry Elor of Walnut Creek, Calif., took first place at 120 kg.
Jones won five straight matches on his way to his first-place finish. Elor won all three of his matches to capture the gold.
Placing fourth at 74 kg was Anthonie Linares of San Jose, Calif. Also competing from the USOEC at 60 kg were Travis Rice, fifth; Kyndall Rutz, eighth; and Alec Nora, 10th. At 66 kg, Deondre Sparks placed fifth and Auston Morrow placed sixth.
Eleven wrestlers competed at 60 kg and 26 at 74 kg. Rutz and Nora were the only two competitors at 55 kg, so both wrestled up a class at 60 kg to face more competition.
