Track and Field Breaks Two School Records
DULUTH, Minn. – The Northern Michigan University indoor track and field team opened the 2012-13 season at The Opener from the campus of St. Scholastica. Team scores weren’t kept but also participating was Bemidji State, Bethany Lutheran, Minnesota-Duluth and UW-Superior.
The Wildcats broke two school and meet records. Sophomore Britni Wirtz and sophomore Angelina Howard took the top two spots in the 60-meter dash. Wirtz sprinted to a new school and meet record in 7.74 seconds, beating Howard’s records from last year.
Junior Cheyenne Stewart took the long jump with a school and meet record jump of 18-feet-5.75. She also won the triple jump (37-2.5).
Senior Colby West and junior Sydney Schultz finished first and third in the 300-meter dash. Jaime Roberts won the pole vault, clearing 12 feet.
The 4x400 relay squad took second as senior Brooke Granquist, Shultz, Wirtz and West ran for the ‘Cats.
Junior Delany Lovett finished second in the triple jump and senior Mariah Beaman was third in the long jump. Junior Katie Searles placed fourth in the 60 hurdles. Freshmen Tori Freeman and Megan Strait were fifth and sixth in the shot put.
