MARQUETTE – United States Olympic Education Center weightlifter Breanne Carlson (Peshtigo, Wis.) placed third at the USA Senior National Championships held June 11-13 in Peoria, Ill.
Carlson, a graduate student at Northern Michigan University, was in fifth place after snatching 61 kg and was determined to place higher. She told coach Andy Tysz, “I can do it; I came here to clean-and-jerk.” Determination paid off in the clean-and-jerk with a lift of 78 kg to boost Carlson to third place in the 53 kg division.
“It was very exciting to be competing at a prestigious level and place in the top three,” said Carlson.

Lenahen snatched 125 kg and clean-and-jerked 161 kg, for a total of 286 kg. Jackson’s total was 277 kg, with 120 kg in the snatch and157kg in the clean-and-jerk.

“Everyone reached the goals they set for this tournament and I’m proud of how the team did, especially considering how young they are,” said Tysz.
