USOEC's Mango to Wrestle on Aircraft Carrier

MARQUETTE –United States Olympic Education Center and Olympic wrestler Spenser Mango (St. Louis, Mo.) will wrestle on the USS Intrepid, an aircraft carrier that participated in World War II and the Vietnam War, as part of the Beat the Streets Wrestling Gala in New York City. The event features seven matches and will be held on Saturday, May 13.
Mango, who graduated from Northern Michigan University earlier this month, will face Ellis Coleman, a three-time Illinois high school state champion from the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
“It’s a great event for a worthy cause and I’m excited to be a part of it,” Mango said.
Headlining the night is a rematch of the 2009 NCAA Championship bout between Brent Metcalf and Darrion Caldwell. Dinner and an awards presentation will follow.
Beat the Streets is a program in New York City that aims to teach boy and girls lifelong skills through wrestling.
