USOEC Greco team to take on Norway in Dual
MARQUETTE— The United States Olympic Education Center men’s Greco-Roman wrestling team is set to take on Norway in a dual meet, Monday, Feb. 22 hosted by Westwood High School.
Nine athletes from Norway arrived in Marquette this week for a two-week training camp led by USOEC head coach Dennis Hall and assistant coach Willie Madison. The camp will provide international training for the young athletes who have had little international experience in the past. The dual meet will put the use skills learned during the camp.
“International tournaments are rare for guys this age,” said Hall. “The experience for both teams is huge and the dual meet will give us a good sense for things we need to work on during the second half of the camp.”
The competition also gives the athletes a chance to compete at home and showcase the USOEC and the Greco-Roman program.
“The duel will be fun and exciting since I will be competing against people my own age but it will definitely test my abilities,” said USOEC wrestler Josh Castellano (Wood Dale, Ill.). “During the training camp I plan on working mostly on my technique and positioning.”
In addition to the competition, 2008 Olympian Spenser Mango (St. Louis, Mo.) and 2009 World Team member Chas Betts will be on hand to talk with athletes and sign autographs.
The USOEC Greco-Roman team will dual Norway at 7:30 p.m. in the gym at Westwood High School in Ishpeming. Admission is free for all spectators.
