USOEC Greco-Roman Wrestler Harry Lester
MARQUETTE–United States Olympic Education Center Greco-Roman wrestler Harry Lester (Akron, Ohio) defeated 2006 World Champion Li Yanyan of China at the Chicago Cup Tuesday (Feb. 6) night in Chicago, Ill.
“This [win] shows that Harry is moving in the right direction to be the next world champ,” said head coach Ivan Ivanov.
Lester, the 2006 world bronze medalist, body locked Yanyan to take control early in the 66-kilogram match. Lester finished the night 4-1, 6-0 against Yanyan.
“The body lock decided the whole first period,” said Ivanov. “He also handled defense well, stopping his [Yanyan’s] attacks. [In the second period,] Harry got a major advantage by taking him out of bounds and then he turned him.”
Lester is traveling to Colorado Springs, Colo., to join USOEC Greco-Roman teammates and the USOEC women’s freestyle team at the Dave Schultz Memorial International competition Feb. 9-10.
Lester is also tentatively scheduled to compete in Marquette at the third annual Olympic Challenge Feb. 14 in Northern Michigan University’s Superior Dome, where he’ll take on 2004 U.S. Olympian Oscar Wood.
