NMU Dance Team

The NMU Dance Club is made up of dedicated and talented young women who represent the University in a positive and spirited manner. Members on our team have a diverse background, including classical ballet, hip-hop dance, cheerleading squads, gymnastics, kick lines and elite pompon programs. This diversity makes our team remarkable because we draw on one another's strengths to succeed. As a team, we have the opportunity to perform at many home varsity football, soccer, volleyball, basketball games, and at various University and community functions. Through performances, appearances, and volunteer activities, the Northern Michigan University Dance Team serves as NMU ambassadors.

Dues
Dues are $150/year for Performance Team members and $75/year for Club Team members - Dues are used for purchasing costume pieces, team-issued apparel, music, and poms. Each member must also pay a summer camp fee.​

Participants Must Supply
Club and Performance team members are required to purchase a full-year PEIF pass. Team members will also be required to buy specific tights and shoes.

Travel
The NMU Dance Team does not perform at away games, but is occasionally asked to perform in the community and may make trips to other events. In 2013-2014, the team has the opportunity to compete regionally. Travel costs will be fundraised by the entire team.

Tryouts
Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 8:30 am – 2:00 pm

Located in PEIF practice gym 154
Check-in will start at 8:30 a.m., warm up starts at 9 a.m.

Please print, fill out and bring the required pages of the packet to tryouts.

Video Tryouts will be allowed on a case-by-case basis. Please email jkrawze@nmu.edu to request a Video Tryout. 

Pre-Tryout Dance Team Open Studios:

This is an opportunity to practice and review the technique required at tryouts. The Open Studios are not a required portion of tryouts. Participants will need to hold a current PEIF membership or have a Day Pass to use the Dance Studio.

Dates: Sunday, March 24, 8:00 – 9:30 p.m. & Sunday, April 7, 8:30 – 10 p.m.

Location: PEIF Dance Studio

Additional Requirements
At auditions, each participant should be prepared to do pirouettes, high kicks, leaps, center leaps, center jumps, firebirds, calypsos and splits. All technique and choreography (Pom routine and Jazz routine) will be reviewed and taught at the audition - it is not necessary to prepare your own material. Team members are held to high technical and performance standards; focus will be placed on technical competency and ability to quick study and perform choreography.
