The NMU Dance Team is made up of dedicated and talented young women who represent the University in a positive and spirited manner. Members on our team have diverse backgrounds, including classical ballet, hip-hop dance, cheerleading squads, gymnastics, kick lines and elite pompon programs. This diversity makes our team remarkable because we draw on one another's strengths to succeed. As a team, we have the opportunity to perform at many home varsity football, volleyball, and basketball games, as well as various University functions. The NMU Dance Team also has the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level at competitions located throughout the Midwest. As a team, we have competed at the Ashwaubenon Invite in Green Bay, WI and at the DX Americup Competition in Minneapolis, MN where last year the team earned the totle of Pom Champions! Through performances, appearances, and volunteer activities, the Northern Michigan University Dance Team serves as NMU ambassadors.
Dues are $150/year - Dues are used for purchasing costume pieces, team-issued apparel, music, and poms.

The NMU Dance Team does not perform at away games, but is occasionally asked to perform in the community and may make trips to other events. In 2015-2016, the team has the opportunity to again compete at the Ashwaubenon Invite in Green Bay, WI and the DX Americup Competition in Minneapolis, MN, where we hope to reclaim our title as Pom Champions!
The NMU Dance team is offering video tryouts during the summer for the 2015-2016 team. Video submissions will be due on Friday, July 24th. We will also hold an in-person tryout on August 28-29, the weekend after the start of fall classes. Video tryouts are highly suggested as any members added during the summer will be able to attend our camp on August 18-20th and will therefore be prepared to perform at our first football games of the semester. Please come prepared for tryout by reviewing the tryout packet posted below and filling out the provided forms. Email NMUWildcatDanceTeam@gmail.com to request a video tryout or with any other questions.
At auditions, each participant should be prepared to do pirouettes, high kicks, leaps, center leaps, center jumps, firebirds, calypsos and splits. All technique and choreography (Pom routine and Jazz routine) will be reviewed and taught at the audition - it is not necessary to prepare your own material. Team members are held to high technical and performance standards; focus will be placed on technical competency and ability to quick study and perform choreography.
