Track & Field
Do you want to run, jump, or throw weights at a competitive collegiate level? Have you ever participated in track & field before and still want to compete? Well then, NMU Track & Field Club is the sport for you! We are a team dedicated to high level fitness, comradery, and competitiveness. Our practices consist of specific high intensity workouts designed for each individual event. Each member will achieve their peak physical condition through comprehensive training and exercise curriculums before the season starts. Our official track season starts in the beginning of the winter semester. Be a part of something bigger than yourself, become the Wildcat you were born to be!
Dues will range from $60 to $70 initially. The due fees will guarantee each member a track uniform (top & bottom), a team t-shirt, a team sweatshirt, and one (1) meet. Please be aware as the team travels extraneous fees may be applied which may include but are not limited to: travel expense, lodging/food expense, meet entry fee expense, ect.
Participants Must Supply
Each track athlete must supply his own running/workout shoes and track spikes. This also implies proper work out attire for both indoor and outdoor practices and meets.
Interest meetings are held within the first two (2) months of the Fall Semester as practicing times start to form by the beginning of October. The NMU Track and Field Club unofficially starts practicing in early September. This is a time for distance runners to begin their training while the weather is warm. Pre-season practices are very informal and are typically held near campus. Most pre-season practices will consist of long or timed runs. Pre-season practices are not necessary but highly encourage for distance/mid distance runners and individuals new to the sport.
The NMU Track & Field Club travels to area schools in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Upper and Lower Michigan. We compete against D2 and D3 colleges and universities that are ideal with our team’s school schedules. Most meets are held on weekends during the latter part of the second semester. Our team travels to as many track meets as our school schedules permit us to.
Practices are based on each track athlete’s availability and are specialized for each member’s individual track event. Practices are held during the weekdays three (3) to four (4) times a week. Each track athlete is expected to attend practice pending special circumstance i.e. Family, class, work, illness, ect. Each practice is followed by weight training in the Physical Education and Instructional Facility (P.E.I.F).
Track Club Commitments
As a member of the NMU Track & Field Club, you will be expected to participate in sponsored events on and off the track. We volunteer our time as a team to various charitable events as well as fundraise though out the university and the Marquette area. As NMU track club athletes, we represent ourselves, our club, and school.
Each athlete must have health insurance as well as a Physical Education and Instructional Facility (P.E.I.F.) pass.
