Coniglio comes to NMU from Kent State University where he has been with the Golden Flash for the past three seasons (2009-11).
“Joe is a young man who has a real impressive resume and comes highly recommended by every member of Kent State’s coaching staff,” Ostrowsky said. On the field he was an All-Mid-American Conference player for Miami University and was also a strength and conditioning All-American in college. He’s bright, articulate, young and has done all the grunt work to earn his way to the next phase of his coaching career.”
As a graduate assistant at KSU, Coniglio coached on the defensive side of the ball in 2011. He was the video coordinator in 2010 and a student defensive assistant in 2009.
At Miami, Coniglio was a standout defensive end who totaled 19.5 sacks and 31.5 tackles for loss in his career (2005-08). He earned third-team All-MAC accolades his final two seasons, turning in his best performance as a junior with 6.5 sacks and 10.5 TFL. He was named the RedHawk’s 2005 freshman of the year.
He graduated from Miami in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in sport studies.
